The handlamp comprises a transparent tubular body, at one end of which is disposed a ballast unit capable of powering a fluorescent tube from a d.c. voltage external source. The ballast unit has outputs consisting of a central contact pin and an annular coaxial contact surface. The fluorescent tube 5 is mounted on a fitment/holder 4 integral with an elastomer plug 20, and capable of being inserted into the tubular body in a position which is centred by the cylindrical-sector shape of the body 40 of the fitment/holder and by the circular flange 46 which carries contact plates 44, 45 disposed so as to bear respectively on the contact pin and contact surface of the ballast unit. Access to the fluorescent tube is provided by retracting the fitment/holder 4 from the tubular body, the contact of the plates 44, 45 with the ballast unit being broken before the skirt 20a of the plug 20 has left the tubular body. There is no danger of accidental contact. <IMAGE>
