The invention relates to profiled sails and a mast which is adapted to them. The sails 1 consist of two part sails 2 and 3 sliding in a set of double rails R1 and R2 formed in a mast 7. Spacers a, b, ... n, of decreasing thickness, provide the separation of the two part sails 2 and 3. The mast 7 has a flat surface 20 and an outer wall 21 which are shaped in profile in such a way that the profile of the mast 7 and that of the sails 1 are practically an extension of one another. The invention applies especially to the manufacture of large sails. <IMAGE>
