<p>PURPOSE:To regenerate filter efficiently by an inexpensive apparatus, by feeding air to a filter disposed in an exhaust system, and at the same time producing microwaves in regenerating the filter. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas discharged from an engine 1 is carried to a filter 5 via an exhaust branch pipe 3a, and after particulates contained in the exhaust gas are captured and removed by the filter 5, it is discharged to the atmosphere via a muffler 13. In regenerating the filter 5 when it has caused clogging, a branch pipe 3a is closed and a branch pipe 3b is opened by an exhaust-gas switching valve 15 to carry exhaust gas to the muffler 13 via the pipe 3b bypassing a muffler casing 4. At the same time, air supplied from an air pump 16 is carried into the casing 4 by opening an air switching valve 18 and a microwave oscillator 8 is set into operation. With such an arrangement, the filter 5 is regenerated by heating and burning only the particulates contained in the exhaust gas by the function of microwaves.</p> |
