Vesicular separating, packing and support material

The invention relates to a novel type of particulate separating, packing and support material, which is principally usable in liquid chromatography, electrophoresis, ultrafiltration and in enzymatic and microbiological conversion of substances. The aim is the production and use of particulate separating, filling and support material which is distinguished by favourable mechanical properties and by a high intensity in the mass transport and/or substance conversion processes. From this is derived the object of developing a type of particulate separating, packing and support material having novel properties compared to the known porous solid particles. According to the invention the known porous solid particles are replaced in their use as separating, packing and support materials by thin-walled hollow bodies (vesicles) having a porous, potentially flexible and potentially hydrophillic solid cover enclosing an interior cavity. These hollow bodies are expediently living, killed or otherwise altered plant cells or microorganisms as single cells or associated in tissue.
