A device for forming piles of boards or rods lying spaced apart, parallel to one another on a conveyor (1) which are fed to a stacking chute (A) and, to form a pile, can be released in succession into the chute (A) onto feeding arms (2, 2'). These feeding arms (2, 2') are arranged on a support (4, 4') so as to be horizontally pivotable into and out of the cross-section of the chute (A). The supports (4, 4') can reciprocate independently of one another and each group of the feeding arms (2, 2') and their supports (4, 4') respectively have common drive elements (8, 8' or 13, 14) respectively, for the swinging and/or reciprocating movement. <IMAGE>
