Method and device for the digital coding of an image, particularly a television image comprised of pixels (elementary points) regularly distributed in the image plane to which are affected one or a plurality of radiometric properties which are named components Ci. Windows (f) having a predetermined geometric form and comprising a certain number of pixels (p) are determined in the image; for each window, groupings by classes of radiometries (R1, R2...) (spectral or spatial) of vector ends representative of pixels or combinations of pixels of the spatial image with N dimensions, are carried out according to a proximity criterion; for each class (R1, R2...), are defined from individual values of pixels forming the class N characteristic radiometries which will be stored or transmitted to be used for reconstructing the image; further to define each pixel, a characteristic code of the class (R1, R2...) to which it pertains is stored or transmitted, thereby enabling the assignment thereto of corresponding characteristic radiometries in order to achieve the reconstruction of the image. |
