Butadiene-free or nearly butadiene-free 1-butene is recovered from C4 streams containing 1-butene and butadiene by selective hydrogenation of the butadiene in the presence of hydrogenation catalysts by carrying out the selective hydrogenation in the presence of small amounts of carbon monoxide.
