The invention relates to a diaphragm shutter designed as a programmed shutter. Use of the diaphragm shutter as a programmed shutter is rendered possible by subjecting the opening ring of the shutter to the action of a retarding mechanism as it operates. For space-saving reasons, this retarding mechanism is specially designed as a pivotable fork whose fork tines are in each case provided on the insides with a row of teeth which are offset with respect to one another by half an increment. As the opening ring operates, an anchor connected to the opening ring slides through between the teeth and in so doing continually pivots the fork to and fro. The operation of the opening ring is slowed down in this way. It is also possible for the purpose of disconnecting the retarding mechanism for the fork tines to be spread so far apart that the anchor passes freely between the teeth.
