In the process, the flue gases are cooled and condensed in at least one heat exchanger to below the dew point, the entire pollutant fraction being condensed out by stepwise cooling of the flue gases and the condensate produced in the boiler (2) being subsequently collected and the pollutant fraction being at least partly bound by chemical reaction. To carry out the process, heating boilers (2) are suitable in which the sequentially arranged heat exchangers (3, 3', 3'') in the flue gas collector (1) reduce the temperature of the flue gases to 30 +/- 5 DEG C. The condensate in the flue gas collector (1) is freed from the pollutant fraction in a closed receiver (5) by reaction with granulated marble (21). <IMAGE>
