1369429 Inhibiting scale formation CIBAGEIGY AG 29 Nov 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 56760/70 Heading C1C [Also in Division C7] Water is treated, to reduce its scale-forming tendencies, with 0À1-100 p.p.m. by wt. of hydrolysed polymaleic anhydride in acid or salt form, having a M.W. of 300-5000 as determined by calculation following osmometric measurement on the polymaleic anhydride before hydrolysis. The hydrolysed polymaleic anhydride may be formed in the water being treated by adding polymaleic anhydride to the water. Other additives which may be used in the water treatment are naphthalene sulphonic acid/formaldehyde condensation products, lignin sulphonates and phosphonates. The water may be used in reverse asmosis systems, desalination plants and boiler plants. |
