The film (1) passes between a light source (3) and a projecting lens (4). The image of each frame (2) of the film is focussed onto the input window (5) of an image intensifier tube (6). A deflection coil (7) around the tube shifts the intensified image up the output window (8), one TV line at a time. The intensified image is focussed by another lens (9) onto the face of a line-sensor (10), which has 1,024 photo-electric cells. The sensor output is amplified (11) and fed to a TV monitor or video recorder. Alternative versions for colour TV have three strobed light sources and either 3 line sensors or one line sensor and a colour matrix circuit.
