<p>The two blades (9) of the turbine, which are long and narrow, are connected together and mounted on the end of the drive shaft (4) by a thin U-shaped bar (11). The bar is much more flexible than the blades. When wind strength (6) is negligible, the blades are at right angles to the shaft. As the wind strength increases, the connecting bar flexes, allowing the blades to bend back, spilling some wind. The flexing is mechanically limited by angled stop arms (18) mounted on the ends of the blades (9). The connecting bar may be made from solid or laminated material.</p> |
