PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance useful a fuel component, from synthesis gas under mild reaction condition in high efficiency, by using a catalyst comprising a substance obtained by calcining a mixture of a zinc compound and a metalic compound such as iron compound, etc., impregnating an alkali metal compound thereto, and calcining and reducing the product. CONSTITUTION:(A) A zinc compound, (B) one or more compounds of the metals selected from iron, cobalt and nickel, and (C) one or more compounds of metals selected from those belonging to the II, III or IV group of the periodic table or those belonging to the fourth period of the V, VI or VII group of the periodic table are mixed together, and calcined at 200-500 deg.C. The calcined product is impregnated with (D) an alkali metal compound and/or an alkaline earth metal compound, and calcined. The solid substance obtained by the reduction of the above product is used as a catalyst to produce a mixed alcohol from a synthesis gas (preferably having a molar ratio (H2/CO) of 1/3-3/1). |
