A plastic closure for a container has a bottom 3 and a skirt for fastening the closure to a cardboard canister 1. Forming part of the skirt is a tear strip 5, which is connected to a grip, which projects from the bottom edge of the skirt. By means of the grip, the tear strip 5 can be torn off in order to remove the container closure. The container closure has a wall part 4, which runs coaxially with and inside that part of the skirt forming the tear strip 5. The wall part 4 and the tear strip 5 form a groove 6, in which the mouth edge 7 of the canister is accommodated. The bottom 3 of the container closure is connected to the wall part 4 at a sufficiently large distance from the bottom of the groove 6 so that the outside of the tear strip 5 and the inside of the wall part 4 are accessible for the affixing of staples 14 from the outside of the tear strip 5. This provides a secure fastening of the container 1 in the container closure, and the staples 14 will be removed at the same time that the tear strip 5 is removed, when the container closure is opened. <IMAGE>
