The invention relates to the textile industry and is concerned particularly with weaving machines. The device contains a geared motor, by which a comb mechanism, normally driven from the main motor of the loom via a belt pulley, can be driven by means of a selectively engageable coupling. A key/keyway system makes it possible selectively to couple the belt pulley to the main shaft or uncouple it from this. The geared motor can be used selectively for driving the cone mechanism solely for locating the correct shed or also for the slow-speed drive of the entire loom together with the comb mechanism. The invention avoids the disadvantages which a slow running of a loom drive caused by pulses entails.
