The invention is a system allowing an immediate reading of the braking distances of a vehicle. It comprises a light signal 5 reflecting at 6 and whose displacement on the support 3 is a function of the speed of the vehicle, of its weight, of the state of the brakes, and of atmospheric conditions. A displacement of the index 6 towards the top of the windscreen displays an increasing stopping distance, and vice versa. This invention applies to motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
