A plug cock (1) with a spherical taper plug (2) has a flow passage (3) and a flat surface (10) at right angles on it. The taper plug (2) is asymmetric and, in the position for installation in the housing (5), can be passed downwards into the housing through a spindle opening (8) and passes the sealing ring (4). The taper plug (2) is then turned through 180 DEG , thus being in the open position, and the sealing ring (4) is at the same time compressed between the housing (5) and the taper plug (2). As a result, both the housing (5) and the taper plug (2) can each be manufactured from a single piece of material and the plug cock (1) can be assembled automatically in a simple manner. <IMAGE>
