A process for recovering solvents from waste waters in which these solvents, which are miscible with water and form low-boiling azeotropes, are present in very low concentration, is carried out in two or three process steps. In the first step an azeotrope is formed from water and the solvent in question and is eliminated from the waste water by steam in an evaporation column. In the second step, the azeotrope produced in the first step is concentrated by rectification under vacuum. In a third step, as required, either the residual water is eliminated from the azeotrope obtained in the second step by an adsorption agent or the azeotrope is subjected to a further rectification.
