In a filter body made of a relatively thin web of filter material folded into zigzag-shaped layers between folded edges, which web has, between the layers, spacing beads on both sides approximately perpendicularly to the folded edges, undeformed regions of the web surface being provided between parallel separated beads, to improve the functionality and the availability, it is proposed that in the direction approximately perpendicular to each of two folded edges (3) a number of beads (4, 4') are arranged in the width of a layer (1, 1') aligned in a row (6), each parallel convex (4) and concave bead (4') adjacent to each other in the surface of the web (2) forming a bead pair (5), and that each two bead pairs (5) of a row (6) are separated by undeformed surface parts (10) which form a bridge-shaped passage (8) between each two concave beads (4'). <IMAGE>
