In a method for loading a bulk material collection container with a charging space which accommodates the bulk material, especially of a refuse vehicle collection container (2), with a tipping device for the emptying of charging receptacles, especially dustbins, into the charging space and with a device for clearing out the charging space and for introducing the bulk material into the interior of the bulk material collection container, the clearing-out device is automatically switched on only when or after at least one charging receptacle has been taken hold of by the tipping device, but before tipping of the charging receptacle has been completed, and is automatically switched off when the charging space has been at least partially cleared out. To achieve this, the following are used: a system charging device in the form of a lifting and tipping device (3), a rotary drum collection container or a hinged plate loading mechanism as a clearing-out device, a manually operated control system (4) for the lifting and tipping device (3) and an on-and-off switch (5, 8) which can be actuated by this control system (4) for the drive of the clearing-out device, with a time-delay control system if necessary. <IMAGE>
