The invention relates to a method and a device for determining the course of reinforcing steel in a limited surface region of a reinforced concrete construction. So as to be able to detect the course of the reinforcing steel without detrimentally heating the same, the invention provides that a sensor that is provided with an electrical resonant circuit is guided over prescribable positions of the surface region, that in each position of the sensor corresponding coordinate position signals and a digitized measured value signal corresponding to the influence of the electrical resonant circuit are derived and fed to a computer, that the computer uses these coordinate position signals and measured value signals to control an output unit which has a display or output panel corresponding to the size of the surface region, and that display or output symbols corresponding to the assigned measured value signals are generated true to scale and position in this display or output panel of the output unit.
