A device for heating the intake pipe of an aspirated internal combustion engine has a heating element arranged in the wall of the intake pipe downstream of a fuel metering device, which element is formed by a heating plate heatable both electrically and by the cooling water of the internal combustion engine. In order to achieve effective heating of the mixture, especially during cold starting and the warm-up phase of the internal combustion engine, the heating plate (1) is initially to be heated by electrical means and on attainment of a sufficiently high temperature of the cooling water essentially by the latter. In order to prevent any heat dissipation from the heating plate to the cooling water jacket (9) when the electrical heating is switched on, heat transmitting elements (2, 8, 4) are to be inserted between the cooling water jacket and the heating plate, which elements have a relatively low thermal conductivity but on the side facing the cooling water have means (11) for increasing the coefficient of heat transmission. <IMAGE>
