The sifting or classifying of fine-grained materials in a counterflow deflection sifter can present very great problems in particular if the fine-grained material is very damp. In such a case, the fine-grained damp material must be previously dried in a separate dryer before it can be charged into a counter-flow deflection sifter for sifting or classifying.
