<p>A solar collector has a corrugated absorber plate in which each corrugation has a planar vertical portion and a curved generally horizontal portion. A heat collection water pipe is disposed adjacent the absorber plate with long horizontal portion of the pipe being partly received in respective corrugations. The vertical portions are coated with black heat absorbent paint and the curved portions are highly reflective and serve to reflect solar energy over the hot water pipe and the vertical portions. The horizontal pipe portions have heat collecting fins in engagement with the vertical portions of the absorber plate to carry heat from these vertical portions to the pipe. Additional reflectors are provided along the two sides of the absorber plate to direct solar energy across the absorber plate. Finally a relatively wide reflector is situated along the lower edge of the absorber plate to direct solar energy up the absorber plate and a marginal absorber portion is provided along the upper edge of the absorber plate. The design maximizes the amount of solar energy directed on to the absorber plate and minimizes the tending of the hot water pipe to shade the absorber plate.</p> |
