PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high corrosion resistance, high output, a high S/N ratio and satisfactory traveling durability by forming the 2nd magnetic layer having a specified weight ratio of Co to Cr on the 1st magnetic layer having a composition contg. Co, Ni and O on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The 1st Co-base magnetic layer made of Co or consisting of Co and Ni, Co and O, or Co, Ni and O is formed on a substrate, and the 2nd magnetic layer is formed on the 1st magnetic layer. The 2nd magnetic layer contains Co and Cr in 2.5-8 weight ratio of Co to Cr. When the ratio is >8, the corrosion resistance including moisture resistance and oxidation resistance reduce. When the weight ratio is <2.5, the electromagnetic transducing characteristics deteriorate, and the output and the S/N reduce. In case of 3-6 weight ratio of Co to Cr, more favorable results are produced with respect to the corrosion resistance including moisture resistance and oxidation resistance and the electromagnetic transducing characteristics. |
