ELECTRODE FOR ARC FURNACES An arc electrode for use in an arc furnace, the arc electrode including a generally metallic upper portion and a consumable lower portion threadably interconnected to the upper portion. The upper portion includes a liquid cooling means and is divided into an upper region and a lower region, the lower region being of a somewhat lesser circumference than the upper region. The lower region is surrounded by an electrically conductive intermediate layer, preferably slideably retained surrounding the lower region, and the intermediate layer is, in turn, surrounded by an electrically insulative layer slideably retained surrounding the lower region.
