PURPOSE:To allow a propelling unit in a tilt device for an outboard motor to be easily held or released, by providing a first spring for biasing an engagement pin against a clamp bracket and a second spring for biasing same oppositely to the engagement pin. CONSTITUTION:When an operating lever 30 is set to an unlocked position, a pawl 24 of a second lock arm 21 is disengaged from a lock pin 19, thereby allowing a propelling unit 16 to be tilted up, and a biasing force of a second spring 38 becomes smaller than a biasing force of a first spring 36 by the rotation of the operating lever 30, thereby pushing an engagement pin 32 from a support hole 31A to a bracket 12. Under the condition, when the propelling unit 16 is titled up, the engagement pin 32 acts to hold the unit 16 in an tilt-up position with an end surface of its larger diametrical portion 32A abutted against a stopper surface 33 of the bracket 12. When the lever 30 is selected to a locked position, the biasing force of the spring 38 becomes greater than that of the spring 36, thereby allowing the propelling unit 16 to be tilted down. |
