PURPOSE:To obtain a head with small size and high output by providing a core having a leg section coupled magnetically to a main magnetic pole in a vertical recording and reproducing magnetic head and forming two end faces of the leg section opposite to each other in the progressing direction of a recording medium in nonparallel with the track width direction or forming them different in shape. CONSTITUTION:The main magnetic pole 23 made of a metallic layer magnetic thin film of high saturated magnetic flux density and high permeability such as amorphous magnetic alloy is formed on one side face of a main magnetic core 30 of nearly U- shape and made of a metal having a high permeability such as ferrite, ''Sendust'' or the like. The core 30 consists of a holding leg section 29 of the main magnetic pole 23, the leg section 28 having a bottom in nonparallel with the track width direction to focus efficiently the magnetic flux through the high permeability layer 25 of a recording medium 21, and a connecting section 27 to connect both the leg sections 28, 29. The leg section 29 is provided at a position retrogressed from the medium 21 from the tip of the main magnetic pole 23. The shape of bottom of the leg section 28 can be made as various forms. Thus, the leg section 28 is miniaturized, and the recording and reproducing efficiency is improved. |
