The invention relates to a cutting element for a rotary tool, which cutting element is constituted by a ring 1, the outer side of which has the shape of a rotation surface and the one end face of which acts as a stand base, whilst the other end face 4 of the ring forms a cutting edge 5. In order to achieve a longer period of use for the cutting element and reduce manufacturing costs, the radial rigidity of the ring 1 has been arranged to vary along the periphery of the ring. The varying radial rigidity of the ring along its periphery, is achieved by altering the thickness a of the ring 1.
