The safety system uses a load detection by-pass channel coupled to the high pressure line of the hydraulic cylinder. A linear load sensor is directly coupled to the load detection by-pass channel for converting the pressure signal into a corresp. voltage fed to a warning switching circuit, set to one of a number of load limit values. The warning switching circuit is electrically coupled to a current switch cooperating with the release valve for the hydraulic cylinder, so that the warning switching circuit is simultaneously energised and disconnected as the valve is closed and opened.
