The cooling device is designed as a circulation cooler and, in a housing (10) on which the distillation apparatus (17) can be mounted, is provided with a heat exchanger (11) containing a cooling liquid, which heat exchanger can be detachably attached by its inflow line (12) to the inlet (5) and by its return line (13) to the outlet (6) of the condenser (4) of the distillation apparatus (1). A cold trap (14), dipping into the cooling liquid, is removably inserted into the heat exchanger (11), which cold trap is detachably attached by a first connection (15) to the vacuum connection (8) of the condenser (4) and by a second connection (16) to at least one absorber (17), the absorber (17) trapping the vapours not condensed in the condenser (4) and in the cold trap (14). The absorber (17) is connected to a vacuum pump (18); this vacuum pump (18) is preferably connected to a vacuum adjusting and measuring means (19,20) arranged outside the housing (10). <IMAGE>
