An integrated circuit comprises a plurality of semi-conductor devices incorporated in a semi-conductor body covered by an insulating layer on which are mounted further circuit elements, the semi-conductor body being recessed beneath these elements so that they are supported entirely by the insulating layer. The recesses may be formed by the action of an etchant (which may be organic or a gas) introduced through apertures etched in the insulating layer near the peripheries of the circuit elements supported by the layer, or by a process starting from the opposite surface of the body. The object of the invention is the reduction of shunt capacitance.</p> |
