Process for the preparation of rosmarinic acid from plant cell cultures and of plant cell pellets containing rosmarinic acid

Two-stage process for the preparation of rosmarinic acid from plant cell cultures of species of Labiatae and Umbelliferae by growing the plant cells in aqueous nutrient medium in which the production of rosmarinic acid in the plant cells is induced in the 2nd stage by transferring the cells from the maintenance medium into a special production medium and removing the resulting biomasses. The latter can, after drying, be processed directly to pharmaceutical compositions, in particular to tablets which can then be used as medicines.
