METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCING PIG IRON

PURPOSE:To reduce energy consumption and production cost by reducing iron ore by the reducing gas generated from a melting and gasfication furnace which melts the resulting product of reduction of the iron ore and carbonizing coal by the sensible heat of the reduced iron formed by such reduction. CONSTITUTION:High temp. gas consisting of carbon monoxide and hydrogen is formed into the lower part of a coke packed layer 1-5 which holds the unmolten reduced iron in the upper part of a melting and gasification furnace 1. Such high temp. gas is passed in said layer 1-5 to melt the reduced iron. The molten metal of a high temp. and the slag contg. oxides of iron are passed through the layer 1-5 in counter current with the ascending high temp. gas. The metallic oxide in the molten slag is reduced by coke and carbon is melted in the molten metal to form molten iron. The reducing gas recovered from the furnace 1 is conducted to a shaft type reduction furnace 2 to reduce the iron ore. Coal is carbonized in a carbonization furnace 3 by making use of the sensible heat held by the reduced iron formed by the reduction and the resulting coke is supplied to the furnace 1.
