Roller tappet (1) for a valve drive of a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, comprising a cylindrical plunger (2) and a roller (3) supported in a forked extension (8) by means of a pin (9). The return oil from the valve drive is led off by way of discharge apertures (13) in the forked extension (8), so that the return oil cannot lead either to the build-up of an excessive film of oil or to deposits of dirt particles on the surface of the roller (3). In addition the forked extension (8) has lunate oil pockets (10) for the reliable supply of lubricating oil to the roller bearing and to the end stop faces (15) of the roller (3) (Fig. 1).
