The wiper contains a wire coil 16 whose axis runs transversely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the potentiometer resistor 44. The wire coil 16 is held on two leaf springs 20, 22. The leaf springs 20, 22 extend essentially in opposite directions from the limbs of a U-shaped wiper support 50 and are offset laterally with respect to one another. A flat web 18 is held between the ends of the leaf springs 20, 22. The width of said flat web 18 is less than the internal diameter of the wire coil 16 and the wire coil 16 is seated on it. Such a design prevents the wiper jumping during fast rotation-direction reversal. <IMAGE>
