It is appropriate in certain cases not to transmit a complete multiplex signal (for example, the complete 64 kbit/s multiplex signal according to CCITT Recommendation X.51) or a single channel, but rather to transmit an individual channel group. A channel group is made up uniformly in each case of k channels in time-division multiplexing, where each channel has the same envelope structure with a permanently allocated sync bit. The channels are arranged in the channel group in envelope-interleaved form. The frame synchronisation information is provided in that k consecutive sync bits in one channel group are identical and in that the sync bits of successive groups in each case with k envelopes are alternately binary >>0<< and binary >>1<<.
