METHOD FOR COATING GRANULAR ACTIVATED CARBON

PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent for the treatment of body fluids having very satisfactory power of preventing the outflow of coal dust and the sticking of solid components in blood such as plasma protein by coating granular activated carbon with a soln. of a specified synthetic polymer having a very remarkable hydrophilic property such as PVA and by making the resulting film insoluble with a crosslinking agent as required. CONSTITUTION:Granular activated carbon is coated with a soln. of PVA and/or polyglycerol mono(meth)acrylate as a coating agent optionally after undercoating with a composition which is identical with or different from the coating agent. The resulting film may be made insoluble by cross-linking with a cross-linking agent for the polymers. The desired granular activated carbon for the treatment of body fluids is obtd.
