<p>Gas producing apparatus (2) comprising a first chamber (4) for holding effluent material, a second chamber (6) located above the first chamber and connected thereto by pipe (8) extending below the top of the first chamber, agitator (10) for agitating the effluent material in the first chamber, effluent inlet means (26), effluent outlet means (32), gas outlet means (36), and valve (38) for opening and closing the gas outlet means, the gas producing apparatus being such that in operation with the gas outlet valve closed, gas produced in the first chamber from bacteria treated effluent material causes effluent material to be displaced from the first chamber and into the second chamber via the pipe, and the gas producing apparatus being such that in operation with the gas outlet valve opened, the gas is removed from the first chamber via the gas outlet and the displaced effluent in the second chamber flows back to the first chamber via the pipe and in so doing helps to force the gas in the first chamber out through the gas outlet. <IMAGE></p> |
