PURPOSE:To offer a piezoelectric resonator using a piezoelectric element capable of resonance with at least two frequencies by producing the resonance of a frequency in the thickness slip oscillating mode and of another frequency in the thickness slip torsional oscillating mode. CONSTITUTION:A pair of counter electrodes 17, 18 whiere a size (b) orthogonal to a polarized axis A is selected larger than a size (a) in parallel with the polarized axis A are formed on a piezoelectric substrate 16 and connected to lead electrodes 19, 20 respectively. The thickness slip oscillating mode horizontal to the polarized axis and the thickness slip torsional oscillating mode orthogonal to the polarized axis are produced to a part clipped by the electrodes 17, 18 of the piezoelectric substrate 16 by making the sizes (a), (b) of the electrodes 17, 18 different from each other in this way and since the propagating speeds are different, there exists a difference in the resonance frequencies f1, f2 attended with the respective oscillation. The resonance resistance value R01 by the thickness slip oscillating mode and the resonance resistance value R02 by the thickness slip torsional oscillating mode in this case are adjusted by selecting suitably the ratio b/a. |
