<p>A compensator for the steering system of a vehicle to prevent movement of a steerable member away from a preselected center position until a steering force exceeds a predetermined value. The compensator is connected between the vehicle frame and the steering system and includes a fluid system providing resistance opposing away from center movement. The level of resistance is controllably variable and controls are provided for selectively varying the resistance level while the vehicle is in operation. The compensator may include a trimming device for changing the center position of the steerable member while the vehicle is in operation.</p> |
