PURPOSE:To elevate an auxiliary piston, during upward stroke of a main piston, at an elevating speed higher than that of the main piston so that residual gas may be exhausted by the auxiliary piston. CONSTITUTION:When a main piston 2 comes to its bottom dead center, an auxiliary piston 6 is also positioned to its bottom dead center by its weight or the repulsion force of a return spring 13 so that an intake valve 20 and as well an exhaust valve 21 are opened. When a main piston 2 comes up, an intermittently reciprocating mechanism 9 pulls up the auxiliary piston 6 to its top dead center at a high speed. Since negative pressure is effected in an intake-air chamber so that air is sucked through an intake port 18, and positive pressure is effected in a combustion chamber 17, resulting in discharging of burnt gas through an exhaust port 19. Then, when the main piston further comes up while the intake valve 20 and the exhaust valve 21 are closed, positive pressure is effected in the intake-air chamber 16, and therefore, fresh air is introduced into the combustion chamber 17 through a check valve 15. When the main piston 2 comes to its top dead center, an ignition plug 2 is sparked. Therefore, both main piston 2 and auxiliary piston 6 are pressed downward to give a work to a crankshaft 4. |
