PURPOSE:To discriminate diamond without injuring the same, by detecting the heterogeneity between the noise characteristics detected by irradiating diamond with laser beam and the noise characteristics of natural diamond. CONSTITUTION:When diamond 7 grasped and fixed between a mount table 5 and a curette 6 is irradiated with laser beam, the signal from a transmission photoconductive wire 8 is permeated through the diamond 7 to be received by a first light receiving element 9 and a second light receiving element 10. The noises from the elements 9, 10 are discriminated by a detecting apparatus 11 and further sent to a pattern recognizing apparatus 12. The characteristic noise of a synthetic ore other than diamond are stored in the apparatus 12 and compared with the detected noise to perform the discrimination of diamond. |
