The medium whose flow rate is to be measured flows from the inlet pipe (2), through a tangential inlet sleeve (44) into a rotation-symmetrical chamber (4). The chamber (4) has a rear wall (12) which tapers non-linearly to a point. The medium flows spirally (45) between the tapered end wall (12) and the tapered outlet sleeve (7), passing into the outlet pipe (3). The difference between the signals detected by the inlet (46) and outlet (17) pressure sensors is proportional to the flow rate.
