The technique allows the suggestion of movement to be created on a static surface. The technique depends for its operation on two effects; the persistence of vision of the human eye, and the subtractive colour mixing which occurs between coloured light. The two primary colours, red, and green are used, in order to create the effect, along with a degree of fluorescence in the viewed material. - Three light sources - red, green and UV are arranged to flash in sequence one after the other. The required effect is achieved by the different reflection and absorption of these coloured lights on specific surfaces on the viewed object.
