PURPOSE:To improve sensitivity, S/N and storage life by having an electromagnetic radiation sensitive layer formed by incorporating a material which receives a thermal effect by absorbing electromagnetic radiations and causes an optical change by the thermal effect in the matrix of an iodine compd. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium is obtainable by disposing a material which receives a thermal effect and causes an optical change by absorbing electromagnetic radiations, for example, a material such as Te, Pb, Au, Sn (tin) or the like, and a metallic iodide such as, for example, CuI, CsI, SnI2, SbI3, ZrI4, AgI, PbI2 or TlI3 in respectively separate boats for vapor deposition, crucibles for vapor deposition or the like then depositing both materials by mixed vapor deposition or mixed sputtering on a substrate thereby forming an electromagnetic radiation sensitive layer. The electromagnetic radiation sensitive layer contains preferably the material which causes an optical change by absorbing electromagnetic radiations in a 20-70mol% range.
