<p>PURPOSE:To prevent malfunctioning of a means for controlling the valve timing by the rotation of a step motor at the time of starting an engine, by employing such an arrangement that control of the valve timing is started when the engine speed becomes higher than a prescribed value after starting of the engine. CONSTITUTION:An inner sleeve 36 on the side of a cam shaft 18 and an outer sleeve 38 on the side of a timing pulley 28 are respectively formed with slits 40, 42, and roller bearings 44, 46 are moved in the slits 40, 42 by a step motor 50 for controlling the valve timing. When an engine is stopped, initial setting of the valve timing to a fixed timing is effected for the next starting of the engine. When the engine is started and the engine speed becomes higher than a prescribed value, control of the valve timing is started. Therefore, it is enabled to prevent malfunctioning of a valve timing controlling apparatus due to increase of the battery load caused at the time of starting the engine.</p> |
