Process for regenerating a strongly basic ion exchanger resin from the nitrate, nitrite, sulphate or phosphate form into the bicarbonate form, which process involves, as the important first reaction step, at least partial conversion, by means of sodium chloride solution, into the chloride form, before the ion exchanger is converted in a second stage into the bicarbonate form by means of bicarbonate ions or aqueous sodium hydroxide and subsequent carbonation. The ion exchanger thus treated or regenerated is particularly suitable for removing nitrate from drinking water. |
