The apparatus possesses at least one handle (5) and at least one counter-pressure pad (11). The handles (5) are rotatably fixed to a four-bar linkage, which consists of a vertical apparatus arm (3), an arm (4) with the handles (5) at its pivotable end, a third arm (6) and an arcuate fourth arm (7). One end of a resistance element (9) is fixed on this arcuate arm in a displaceable, lockable and articulated manner, while its other end is fixed in an articulated manner on the apparatus arm (3).
