The insulating mass is applied as a layer on the inner surface of the steam-heated paper drying drum, at the end zone where the drum mantle meets the end flange. The insulating layer can extend into the cylindrical section of the drum flange and/or mantle. The layer is applied in a layer of 0.5-5.0 mm thickness, and is secured by adhesive or vulcanising. The pref. insulating material is a paste for application by spreading, which can be hardened. The drum design prevents overheating and uneven drying of the paper web at the edges, so that the paper quality and character is consistent across the paper web width. |
